Stuff I learned in Texas

Last week's shoot in Shafter, SW Texas for Aurcana  was a real eye-opener.  One of the weirdest sites was the Prada store on the prairie outside Marfa.

Things I learned in Texas this week

From "Don't Squat With Yer Spurs On”, A Cowboy's Guide To Life by Texas Bix Bender
  • ·        There's more ways to skin a cat than stickin' his head in a boot jack and jerkin' on his tail.
  • ·        Never ask a man the size of his spread.
  • ·        Never kick a fresh turd on a hot day.
  • ·        After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: when you're full of bull, keep your mouth shut.
  • ·        If you find yourself in a hole the first thing to do is stop diggin'.
  • ·        Never smack a man who's chewin' tobacco.
  • ·        It don't take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.
  • ·        When dealin' with a slick son of a b...., start off by pinnin' him down and changin' his oil.
  • ·        Never ask a barber if he thinks you need a haircut.
  • ·        Never follow good whiskey with water, unless you're out of good whiskey.
  • ·        If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.
  • ·        Don't worry about bitin' off more than you can chew. Your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger'n you think.
  • ·        Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgement.
  • ·        Always drink upstream from the herd.
  • ·        Never drop your gun to hug a grizzly.
  • ·        If you're ridin' ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it's still there.
  • ·        When you give a lesson in meanness to a critter or a person, don't be suprised if they learn their lesson.
  • ·        The best way to have a quiche for dinner is to make it up and put it in the oven to bake at 325 degrees. Meanwhile, get out a large T-bone, grill it, and when it's done, eat it. As for the quiche, continue to let it bake, but otherwise ignore it.
  • ·        There's two theories to arguin' with a woman. Neither one works.
  • ·        When you're throwin' your weight around, be ready to have it thrown around by somebody else.
  • ·        Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier 'n puttin' it back.
  • ·        Always take a good look at what you're about to eat. It's not so important to know what it is, but it's critical to know what it was.
  • ·        The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket.
  • ·        A smart ass just don't fit in a saddle.
  • ·        Never miss a good chance to shutup.

New Article in Resource World Mag

Please check out my latest article on Advanced Explorations (AXI:TSXV) in Resources World mags latest edition.

Advanced Explorations Begins Mine Permitting at Roche Bay

Advanced Explorations Inc. (TSX V: AXI) (FRANKFURT: AE6), has started spending some of its recent Chinese investment funding. The Company recently closed a five million dollar private placement as part of a joint venture agreement with Xinxing Huaxin (HK) Co., Ltd.

In December 2010, Advance Explorations Inc., (AEI) announced that it has retained the services of EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd., ("EBA"), to produce the Environmental Impact Statement and to support AEI through the permitting and engineering processes required to develop its Roche Bay Iron Ore Project located on the coast of the Melville Peninsula in Nunavut, Canada.

EBA has been involved in the project since 2006 and has been an integral part in producing the
Company's environmental baseline studies since that time, including field programs completed annually from 2007 to2010 inclusive. The extensive information collected through the ongoing baseline studies will support the Environmental Impact Statement, which represents an important stage in the permitting process. EBA has extensive Northern and permitting experience and has also established excellent working relationships with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada and the Nunavut Impact Review Board. EBA provides a broad range of engineering and scientific consulting services to clients in domestic and foreign markets with more than 600 engineers, scientists, technologists, and support staff from 10 offices located in Western and Northern Canada.

John Gingerich, President and CEO, commented:
"We are extremely pleased to have been able to retain EBA's experienced team for this very important next step in moving the Roche Bay project toward production. We are currently finalizing a comprehensive plan to integrate engineering work and EIS phases into the overall permitting process with the approach of simultaneously accomplishing the different requirements in order to accelerate the process. The Company is encouraged by the federal government's strategy to boost northern sovereignty as it includes recent legislative developments to streamline the impact assessment process and provide more efficient and effective procedures for Northern resource projects (Bill C-25 of the Northern Planning and Project Assessment Act)".

Iron Ore Prices Continue Rising
With global demand for steel recovering, raw material prices have risen and are set to rise further in 2011-12, potentially rivalling the previous highs of early 2008 and mid-2010. China in particular and Asia in general are the main drivers of the iron ore price because of their dominant position in the seaborne iron ore trade.

Joint Venture Funds
AEI issued Xinxing Huaxin (a holding company jointly owned by XinXing Ductile Iron Pipes Co., Ltd. and China Huaxin International Trade Co. Ltd.) twenty-one million common shares at the price of $0.25 per share in the Company's capital stock.  Under the terms of the joint venture agreement, Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes will inject $20 million into the Roche Bay project to complete the mine's feasibility study. It will invest a further $30 million when the study is completed and could provide up to $1 billion for the mine's capital requirements. In return, Advanced Explorations has agreed to provide Xinxing Ductile Iron Pipes with half of Roche Bay’s iron ore output.

Advanced Explorations Inc
Advanced Explorations Inc., based in Toronto, Ontario, is focused on developing its flagship Roche Bay Project, in one of the world's largest developing iron ore districts. The project is located proximal to a natural deep water harbour on the coast of the Melville Peninsula in Nunavut, Canada.  The location provides many logistical advantages. The project has an inferred resource of 357 million tonnes, outlined within a small portion of the 140 km of banded iron formation. This iron formation incorporates the Roche Bay deposits, the Company’s Tuktu deposits and other targeted deposits in areas to the north, south and west of the Company’s Roche Bay Project.

The preliminary economic assessment from the Roche Bay deposit alone indicates a potential net present value of US $1.1 billion, and the potential for rapid advancement into development of either iron concentrate or high value iron nugget products. The management team has extensive technical, exploration and Canadian Arctic mining expertise to effectively develop the high quality iron ore opportunities on the Melville Peninsula.
